Canvas is one of Lake Nona's newest communities, and almost every lawn we care for here is in its first or second year. That means St. Augustine sod on freshly graded fill, builder irrigation set for establishment, and beds that were planted last season and have not yet filled in. Lots are standard subdivision size, and the homes are contemporary: clean lines, minimal ornament, a lot of hardscape. A lawn in Canvas is supposed to look as crisp as the architecture.

The first year is about getting the sod rooted and even. We hold off mowing until it resists a tug, take the first cuts high, and keep a close eye on irrigation coverage as the fill settles and low spots appear. Once established, Canvas lawns go on the standard weekly cadence at 3.5 to 4 inches. The part that stays different is the finish: on a modern home, the edge along a concrete walk or a raised planter is a design line, and we cut it straight and keep it clean because a wavy edge looks worse against clean architecture than it would against a traditional house.
